Hotel TERANKA – Formentera – Balearic Islands

Formentera is a particularly windy island and the Hotel Teranka is on the seafront; the placement of our easily removable sails was a technical challenge, especially the rooftop sails which were the most exposed to inclement weather.

These are, without a doubt, our most courageous sails.

Formentera is a particularly windy island and the Hotel Teranka is on the seafront; the placement of our easily removable sails was a technical challenge, especially the rooftop sails which were the most exposed to inclement weather.

But this was not only a technical feat, it was also a design challenge: our sails had to integrate in perfect harmony with the surroundings and the philosophy of the hotel, which is described as “a land of anchorage, where to dock and be enveloped by the peace and lifestyle of the island; a place to disconnect from the world and connect with the land we walk on, where luxury blends with the environment instead of contrasting with it”.

We achieved both objectives: In the courtyard that gives access to the hotel one of our sails gave shade while it was there exposed to the sculpture *Irma’s Dream* by Jaume Plensa, and on the rooftop, a pop-up of the renowned Japanese restaurant *Nobu Matsuhisa* was created.

Once the design was defined, the execution went smoothly, since the anchoring points for the poles and their installation had been planned and prepared during the remodeling works.

Our sails not only easily withstands the island’s winds, but can also be easily removed by the maintenance team at the end of the season, when the hotel closes until the following summer.
